Downtime
In Downtime you play as a new System Admin, hired to keep the server's running. Your budget is limited, hardware unreliable and management won't stand for a loss of profits!
This is my entry for GMTK Game Jam 2024 and is my first attempt at making a game (beyond a Brackeys tutorial). I ran out of time, and the balance and pacing is pretty off. But I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for having a look!
The theme of the Jam was "Built to Scale" and in Downtime you race to build server infastructure to scale and meet customer demand.
Most assets were made by myself apart from:
- Audio was all sourced from Pixabay.
- I used godot_tree_table by EinRainerZufall

Gameplay
Movement is controlled by W, A, S, D
You can interact with server racks when standing in front of them by using E:
- This buys a new server rack if the space is empty
- Lets you work on an existing rack
- Step away from a rack you're working on
When working on a rack you can interact with your existing servers:
- W and S lets your select the different installed servers
- R sells the currently selected server
- F fixes the currently selected server (if it is broken)
You can see a summary of the selected server in the info box:
You can also buy new servers for the rack via the shop:
Servers focus on one of 3 things:
- Compute - Increasing the req/sec you can handle
- Storage - Increasing the TBs of data you can store
- Power - Provides power to all of the other servers in the rack
You can also see an overview of the data centre in the charts on the top left of your screen:
- Demand is the current user demand of your data center
- Installed is how much all of your servers can provide
- Current is the current amount your working servers are providing
